7 Things This Week | Memorial Day Edition 2019
Thanks for tuning in to the World of Arizona podcast network. I’m Amber and this is the Memorial Day 2019 Edition of 7 things this week for Monday, May 27th. Here are 7 events and ceremonies being held on Monday to remember and honor our men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
Let’s start in Chandler, Arizona at the Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery where they will host a Memorial Day Celebration starting at 9:00 am.
In Mesa, there will be a special ceremony at the Mesa Cemetery conducted by the VFW Post 1760. This ceremony is open to the public and food will be available at the Post Building after the ceremony.
In Phoenix, Riders USA is sponsoring their 13th Annual Memorial Day Rally; Flags For Our Fallen. At around 7 am, motorcycles and flags will be lined up along Cave Creek Road near the entrance of The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. The ceremony in the cemetery begins at 8 am.
Traveling to Gilbert, Arizona. HD South, Home of the Gilbert Historical Museum will be hosting a remembrance ceremony complete with music, opening remarks from Gilbert Mayor Daniels and a presentation by guest speaker United States Air Force Retired Colonel, Cliff B Stansell. Bring a lawn chair to this free outdoor event. The museum will open until noon with free admission as well.
Tempe Church of Christ is hosting a family friendly Memorial Day Potluck Party on the church’s front lawn from 11:30 am to 3 pm. Everyone is welcome to share in a day of games, sports, fun and food.
In Phoenix, The Pioneers Cemetery Association encourages attendees to wear red, white and blue to honor our veterans and country at their Memorial Day event held from 9 am to 11:30 am at the Pioneer & Military Memorial Park. Arizona’s Hip Historian; Marshall Shore is this year’s MC. Guests are also welcome to enjoy tours of historic Smurthwaite House, as well as, self-guided tours of the cemeteries.
We finish up our Memorial Day Celebrations in Chandler, AZ. Good Time Charli’s lightens are spirits with, well spirits of the beer and cocktail variety. Live music by country western group Mogollon will be kicking off the evening with a special salute to our service men and women with their rendition of the national anthem.
